Overview
A total of 38 models are provided, simulating expensive hardware units used for mixing and mastering.
For example, the legendary compressor-limiter Fairchild® Model 670 is modeled. At one time, purchasing the actual hardware could cost around 3,675,000 JPY. Needless to say, this is not something an amateur could easily buy. Of course, there are people who can.
Even just hearing that makes it clear that if the modeling is accurate, the €299 required to purchase the entire T-RackS collection is cheap. It is far cheaper than €30,000, and it does not take up physical space. With a good computer, it should be possible to make full use of it. You could definitely say it pays for itself.
Even considering that it is ultimately a simulator, the technology behind it is impressive.
GEAR
Below is a list of the 38 studio rack units currently released.
@ : Gear owned by the site administrator.
Sometimes individual gear units were distributed for free, so if they had been obtained at those times, it might have been possible to own a few more. The administrator does not really use T-RackS, so it is not a big concern. They have never even done a mixdown.
Additional note (December 2022):
The administrator eventually obtained everything as well. This happened after purchasing TOTAL STUDIO MAX for €99. That price is unbelievably cheap. Even T-RackS MAX alone would normally cost more, yet other products were included as well. The level of price destruction is astonishing. Perhaps the idea was: “We already made it, so let’s just distribute it widely.” It almost feels wasteful to buy it at the full proper price. The value is in obtaining it earlier. Even if it becomes cheaper later, it doesn’t really matter.
End of note.

- Black 76 Limiting Amplifier
(Unofficial model of the Universal Audio® 1176LN Limiting Amplifier. The knob layout is different.)
- Hardware price approximately 256,000 JPY
- White 2A Levelling Amplifier
(Unofficial model of the Universal Audio® LA-2A Levelling Amplifier. The knob layout is different.)
- Hardware price approximately 418,000 JPY
- British Channel (Solid State Logic SSL 500-Series)
- Because various configurations are possible, the equivalent price is difficult to determine, but it is roughly 300,000 JPY
- Quad Comp
- A 4-band compressor
- Quad Lim
- A 4-band limiter
- Quad Image
- Function for adjusting stereo width in 4 bands
- De-Esser
- CSR Plate Reverb
- CSR Hall Reverb
- CSR Room Reverb
- CSR Inverse Reverb
- White Channel (Solid State Logic (SSL) XLogic Alpha Analogue Range)
- The layout is different, but it can be considered an evolved version of the British Channel (preferences may vary).
- Price approximately 300,000 JPY
- Bus Compressor (Solid State Logic (SSL) XLogic G Series Compressor)
- The panel color differs from the real unit, but the knobs use the same colors.
- Price approximately 505,000 JPY
- Tape Echo (Maestro Echoplex EP-3)
- Tape echo works by placing recording and playback heads along the tape path. The delay created by the tape travel produces the echo effect.
- There was also a Sound-On-Sound function where recorded audio could be replayed later, similar to loop recording.
- The unit could also be used primarily as an amplifier.
- Famous guitarists such as Brian May, Jimmy Page, and Eddie Van Halen used this device, which brought it considerable attention. Those who do not know it simply have never heard of it.
- It originally cost around 200,000 JPY, but considering inflation, it would probably feel like 1,000,000 JPY today. Used units can sometimes be found for around 50,000 JPY, though most available units are heavily aged.
- The Sound-On-Sound feature is omitted because similar functionality can be achieved through recording in AmpliTube.
- Precision Comp/Limiter (AMS NEVE : 33609N)
- Hardware price approximately 900,000 JPY
- Master EQ 432 (Sontec : MES 432 Parametric Disk Mastering EQ)
- The “Out” knob does not exist on the real unit. However, the real hardware has one additional channel, so it contains roughly twice as many knobs.
- Hardware price around 1,000,000 JPY (used)
- EQ 73 (Rupert Neve Designs 1073)
- A half-rack 1U unit commonly used in broadcasting environments, with five knobs.
- Nowadays it is difficult to obtain the original unit, so only later 1073-series successors are typically available.
- The number of knobs differs from the real unit, but the price exceeds 1,000,000 JPY.
- EQ 81 (Rupert Neve Designs 1081)
- An evolved version of the 73.
- It features four independent band controls, and the original unit also had six knobs.
- The model includes more controls than the real hardware.
- Price approximately 1,300,000 JPY
- EQ PA (Probably Rupert Neve Designs 8801)
- EQ PB (Probably Rupert Neve Designs 8803)
- EQ PG
- Likely an original 10-band graphic EQ inspired by the sound of Rupert Neve Designs hardware.
- These EQ units are all legendary Neve-style devices, each costing close to 1,000,000 JPY.
- Stealth Limiter
- Mic Room
- Saturator X
- ONE
- Dyna-Mu (Manley® Variable Mu Limiter Compressor)
- Hardware price around 500,000 JPY
- EQual
- An original EQ inspired by classic analog EQ hardware from Neve, SSL, API, and others.
- Master Match
- Leslie®
- A rack that allows selection of 5 Leslie amplifiers and 1 cabinet.
- Cabinets include:
Leslie 122, Leslie 122A, Leslie 147, Leslie 3300W, Leslie G37, Leslie Studio 12. Each costs roughly 300,000–500,000 JPY, so the cabinet set alone represents about 2.4 million JPY worth of hardware.
- This kind of sound is suitable for church-like organ tones, such as the intro of Ozzy Osbourne’s “Mr. Crowley.”
- Tape Machine 24 (MCI JH-24)
- Tape Machine 80 (MCI JH-80A)
- Tape Machine 440 (Ampex 440B JH440)
- Tape Machine 99 (Revox PR99 Mk II)
- All tape machines in this series cost over 1,000,000 JPY in hardware form.
- Sunset Sound Studio Reverb
- Space Delay (Roland RE-201 Space Echo)
- Hardware price around 100,000 JPY
- Metering fullmetering
- Metering module. If you do not have the license, only the Peak Meter can be used.
- The older meter (not full metering) is only available in T-RackS CS.
If you purchased all of these hardware units together, it would require about 18 million JPY plus a massive amount of physical space.
When you think about it that way, a complete software bundle for around 40,000 JPY feels cheap.
Well… maybe not. A simulator is still a simulator.
But it’s still something to be thankful for.
