Overview

It looks like 5 MAX has been updated to Version 2. Apparently about five new pieces of gear have been added. Technically, it seems to be Version 5.7. I'm not entirely sure how that works though, because the Version 1 I bought is 5.7.4, so does that mean it's actually the same? I'll investigate.

Ah, I see. When 5 MAX was originally sold, those five pieces of gear weren't included yet. A lot of people (myself included) bought Version 1 during a huge sale. Later, they added those five pieces of gear and called that bundle Version 2.

But honestly, calling it Version 2 of version 5 is confusing. People are understandably asking, “What exactly is Version 2 of 5?” If it's MAX, then shouldn't it already include everything? Overseas forums are pretty heated about this.

To make things even more confusing, after selling so many copies they created comparison charts between versions as if Version 1 never existed, which makes the whole situation even harder to understand.

On top of that, upgrading costs €199.99, which feels like a very odd price point and has caused even more complaints. It seems that price is actually intended for people upgrading from much older versions. In other words, people who already bought 5 MAX v1 were basically left behind.

Paying more than ¥20,000 just for five additional pieces of gear is way too expensive. Well… I don't really need them anyway, at least not right now.

Still, I can understand why people on the forums are upset. Maybe it would make sense to buy it later if the next version gets a deep discount during Christmas or Black Friday sales.

Let's just wait. Let's wait and see. It feels like the backlash from their earlier pricing is catching up with them. That €99.99 price for TOTAL STUDIO 3.5 was probably just too aggressive.

  • Apparently MESA/Boogie 2 has been added. The original MESA/Boogie was already included in Version 1.

  • X-VIBE
  • X-SPACE
  • X-TIME
